In 2020, boxing is no longer fought by humans, but they have been replaced by robots. The former boxer Charlie Kenton drives his truck to promote fights with his robot Ambush. When he has just lost a fight, he is summoned to a hearing and forced to take care of his unknown eleven year-old son Max Kenton since his mother has passed away. Charlie loses another fight with the Noisy Boy robot that his girlfriend Bailey Tallet has just bought and he goes with Max to a junkyard to collect parts of robots to build a new one. However, Max finds an old sparring robot named Atom and Charlie teaches him how to box. Atom becomes a winner and Max and Charlie become closer to each other. However, Charlie has an agreement to deliver Max to his aunt and her wealthy husband.
In the near future, robots have taken over for humans in the boxing ring. A former boxer and small-time promoter (<a href=">Hugh Jackman) struggles to make a living with patched-up robots in shady venues. When he discovers he has an 11-year-old son who believes that a robot found in the junk heap has what it takes to win, he finds himself with a shot at the big time.
When I think Hugh Jackman…I think Wolverine, with adamantium claws ripping through stuff (and occasionally through the bad guys themselves!) and his hair literally wild and feral-looking. But this movie has given Jackman a whole new image…as the deadbeat dad and cocky ex-boxer who participates in gladiatorial robot fights for a living!<br/><br/>I won&#39;t go too much into the nitty-gritty&#39;s of the plot…but all I&#39;d like to say is that this movie is ultimately a story about the triumph of the average down-on-his-luck &#39;everyman&#39; against overwhelming odds. It&#39;s a story we&#39;ve seen done a million times…but never against so creative and pulse-ponding a backdrop!<br/><br/>And while Hugh Jackman does a great job…the real star of the show is undoubtedly his character&#39;s son (played by Dakoto Goyo)…the kid comes off as annoying at first but he eventually grows on you!<br/><br/>It may not be Oscar material, but this sure is one great movie, and at the end of the day, that&#39;s all that matters!
When I first read about this movie I thought it was going to be a guy movie filled w/ nothing but fighting etc. However I&#39;m very impressed by this movie.<br/><br/>It&#39;s got a great plot, which was actually followed without too much straying. The actors/actresses were great for their parts. Great family get together movie (especially if you have a lot of boys).<br/><br/>The only thing that disappointed me was that the boy didn&#39;t get to stay with his father at the end. If I were to change anything it would be that alone.<br/><br/>I fount myself laughing as well as doing that &quot;Aww how sweet&quot; thing. Great movie! Must watch
There's a little "Kramer vs. Kramer" here, a dash of "Transformers" there, and it's all topped with big heap of "Rocky." But it's hard to argue with the results, because, at times, Real Steal is close to a knockout.
Farra tells Charlie and Max that she wants to buy Atom as a sparring bot for Zeus. However, given her reaction to Max refusing to sell Atom and her reaction to Atom winning the fight against Twin Cities, it seems that this is not her real intention but rather that she is trying to use her money to control the sport (as Max says when he calls her out after the Twin Cities fight). Farra likely saw Atom as a threat to Zeus, as he really had no fighting pattern (Zeus&#39;s main feature was to adapt to other bots&#39; patterns) and as a sparring bot he was also able to take a lot of hits and last longer in a fight. Knowing this, Farra tried to buy Atom to sort of move the threat out of the way and control the sport with her money. &quot;All My Days&quot; by Alexi Murdoch.
